ABOUT STEVE — HUMAN & HOUND FITNESS CO
Meet Steve O’Connor — Outdoor Coach, Ultra Marathon Runner & Human Rebuilder
I’m Steve O’Connor
Ex-Soldier. Ultra runner. Outdoor instructor. Dog lover. Coach for real people.
For most of my life I worked in high-pressure leadership roles — military, logistics, senior management. I’ve run teams, built departments, and spent years in jobs where stress, long hours and responsibility were the norm.
But there’s something that never left me:
👉 The outdoors
👉 Fitness
👉 Dogs
👉 Helping ordinary people discover how strong they actually are
After decades of coaching teams, training for ultras, and rebuilding myself physically and mentally more than once… I realised this:
The outdoors is the best gym in the world.
And most people are capable of far more than they think.
So I created Human & Hound Fitness Co.
A simple mission:
Get humans and their dogs fitter, healthier and happier — outdoors, together or separately.
No mirrors.
No egos.
No nonsense.
Just fresh air, honest effort and results that matter in the real world.
My Background
✓ 10 years military service
Built leadership, resilience and real-world fitness.
✓ 35+ years in transport & operational leadership
Coaching teams, developing people, handling pressure.
✓ Ultra runner & endurance athlete
Spine Sprint, multi-day events, desert ultras — I’ve done the hard miles.
✓ Outdoor instructor & Hill and Moorland leader
Comfortable coaching on trails, hills, beaches and woodland.
✓ Dog owner and lifelong dog lover
I understand dogs, how they think, how they move, and what they need.
✓ Currently studying BSc in Sport, Fitness & Coaching
Because practical experience matters — but so does knowledge.
Everything in my life has pointed me toward building a business like this one.
WHY YOU SHOULD TRAIN WITH ME

1. I train real people, not fitness influencers.
Busy parents. Midlife rebuilders. People who hate the gym. Total beginners.
I coach people who want results without the nonsense.

2. I make fitness simple, outdoor and enjoyable.

You don’t need a gym.
You don’t need fancy equipment.
You don’t need to “feel ready.”
You need a clear plan, accountability, and someone who won’t let you give up
.
3. I’ve rebuilt myself multiple times.

Injury, burnout, career changes, starting again at 52 — I’ve lived the journey.
I know what it takes to get back in shape physically and mentally.

4. I’ve done the hard stuff — so I can coach you through yours.
Ultra marathons
Mountain events
Weighted challenges
Desert races
24-hour tests
Military training
I understand discomfort, fear, self-doubt and the feeling of wanting to quit.
That’s why I’m good at getting people past their limits.

5. I don’t just train you — I coach your mindset.

You’ll get fitter. Yes.
But you’ll also get:
-
More resilient
-
More motivated
-
More disciplined
-
More confident
-
More capable
Fitness is physical.
Transformation is mental.
We do both
.
6. You can train with your dog if you want.
Most PTs won’t let you bring your dog.
I encourage it.
Human + dog sessions are fun, bonding, and surprisingly effective.

7. You’ll never feel judged, embarrassed or out of place.

I’ve trained people of every shape, size, fitness level and confidence level.
My sessions are built to meet you where you are.
Not where Instagram says you should be.

8. You’ll get a coach who genuinely gives a sh*t.

I care about people.
I care about dogs.
And I care about helping you win.
I coach with honesty, humour and intensity — not ego or attitude.
